Many companies are developing innovative technologies to meet the growing need of cloud providers for hyperscale storage. One of these companies is Lightbits Labs, which created a unique solution to separate storage and compute in the cloud. Coming out of stealth, they wanted to quickly differentiate from within this very crowded market.
As all competitors were making similar claims, we knew we had to find a differentiated hook to help Lightbits stand out. Through research and product management workshops (yes, we love whiteboards), we identified a unique positioning claim: to enable limitless hyperscale, Lightbits is the only vendor that separates storage and compute without touching customers’ existing networks and servers.

In other words: “Separation without Drama.”
We went for a bold brand expression to support the “no drama” claim. Animated characters were used not only to convey the key message, but also to humanize the brand and distinguish it from the conventional, highly technical messaging of competitors.

Weeks after launch, Lightbits raised $50M, becoming a key player in the cloud storage space.
